Ray Salvatore graduated from Southampton College of Long Island University with a B.A. in art and philosophy. He studied sculpture under Ibram Lassaw and ceramics under Marie Wynne. His first sculptures were in metal and clay. Eventually he discovered the beautiful marble quarries in Jasper, Georgia and began sculpting in marble. He also enjoys working in pastels and operates the Tennessee Milo Artworks where he mainly paints hunting dog portraits. His favorite theme in marble is the human form which flows with his current profession of massage therapist. He is a Licensed Massage Therapist with certification in Deep Tissue, Lomi Lomi, and Zen Thai. Transforming marble into muscle aids his massage technique and his knowledge of anatomy through massage helps his sculpting. Both provide a workout for his own muscles.
