I came late to painting. In my family becoming an artist
was not a desirable career. I never knew until I came to this country
with my husband and started taking art classes that painting would soon
take such an important place in my life and would even become an obsession.
I moved to Georgia recently. My husband passed away 14
days after we moved from California to our home in Stockbridge. It took
me over a year to resume painting. I really believe it helps me to go
on with my life.
I try to express myself in all kinds of medium, watercolor,
oil, acrylics, gouache and charcoal.
I immerse myself in painting and try to create around
me the world as I would like it to be. I paint flowers when I have none
in my garden. I paint joyful reunions or busy market places when I feel
lonely. I create with paint what I am longing for. I love as well to paint
portraits of my dear friends. When they are finished and hanging on the
walls I feel they are close to me.
Painting for me is everything, not only an enriching
experience but a very liberating one as well. I cannot live without art.
All my readings are about art history, my outings about visiting galleries,
museums and exhibits. I really think I am fortunate to be able to travel
around the world to capture all its beauty, bring it back with me in my
camera or sketches and then translate it on a paper or canvas.
My life will unfortunately not be long enough to realize
all the projects I have in mind, but I appreciate what is given to me
right now and feel blessed with it.
